Adrienne Louise Clarkson (née Poy) (Chinese: 伍冰枝; Pinyin: Wǔ Bīngzhī, Hakka: Ńg Pên-kî, Cantonese: Ng5 Bing1 zi1), PC, CC, CMM, COM, CD, LL.D (honoris causa) (born February 10, 1939) is an accomplished Canadian journalist. From October 7, 1999 to September 27, 2005 she served as the 26th Governor General of Canada (representing Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada): she was the first Chinese Canadian (although she does not speak Chinese) and second woman to hold this position, the first being Jeanne Sauvé.
